ONLINE CLASSES FOR HOME BAKERS
THE SECRETS OF SOURDOUGH
Sunday, October 18
11AM – 1PM
Sourdough starters have been used in bread baking for nearly 5,000 years. In the past several months, thousands of homebound bakers began their bread baking journey by enthusiastically creating their first sourdough starter — and then wondering what to do next!
Based on the number of questions we receive from customers at Journeyman Bakery, we figured it was time to bring back our popular bread baking classes (via Zoom) to answer your questions, explore the science behind sourdough starters, and demonstrate time-tested methods for mixing, shaping, and baking a loaf of artisan bread without the use of commercial yeast. We'll even show you how to turn your home oven into a professional bread oven to produce a beautiful and crispy loaf of artisan sourdough bread.
Here's what the class includes:
- • A two-hour Zoom seminar led by Michael Sellers, owner of Journeyman Bakery, who was voted "Best New Bread Baker" by Westchester Magazine in 2017, and has trained with some of the world's best bread bakers.
- • Exclusive access to Journeyman's proprietary sourdough bread recipes for recreating several of our most popular sourdough loaves at home.
- • Invitations to future online chats with Michael and guest bakers to answer your questions and track your progress as your skills improve.
- • A recording of the October 18 class to watch again at your convenience.
While we all look forward to the day when we can meet in-person at our amazing new bakery space in Peekskill, this online class will still be a great way to learn proper technique and meet other aspiring home bakers.
Space is limited so that we can take questions from all participants. Use the "Book" button above to purchase your class registration. Please email Michael with any questions.
When Westchester resident Michael Sellers was downsized from his corporate marketing job in 2015, he did what any newly unemployed American might do—he drove to the Baking Education Center at King Arthur Flour in Vermont for a week-long course in the fundamentals of artisanal bread baking. But what began as a between-jobs adventure quickly took on a life of its own as Sellers discovered a genuine passion for baking bread. Read more
