NEW CLASS! Baking Baguettes at Home

A unique opportunity to learn the time-tested craft of making French baguettes.

About this experience

You'll think you're in a classic boulangerie in Paris when you see, smell, and taste the baguettes we'll make in this special hands-on class with Journeyman Bakery. While baguettes take some practice, there is absolutely no reason why you cannot bake these crusty loaves in your home oven once you learn some special tricks for creating a hot and steamy baking environment. This class will focus on the mixing, shaping and baking of baguettes, as well as a brief overview of the bread's history. We'll make both a classic and sourdough-based baguette, as well as Journeyman's own rye baguette with bacon. Class ends with a sourdough pizza lunch that students will create during class.. Prior bread baking experience is not required. Participants will leave the class with all recipes, their own freshly baked baguettes, and a sample of Journeyman's sourdough starter. This class will be held at Bethany Arts Center at 40 Somerstown Road in Ossining. This is a hands-on class (bring an apron!) led by Michael Sellers, owner of Journeyman Bakery and voted Best New Bread Baker by Westchester Magazine in 2017. Students will receive further information and confirmation after registration.
