Bread Baking 101
Saturday, June 23, 2018
10am - 2pm
Do you love the idea of baking bread at home, but feel you lack the skills to produce a well-baked loaf? If so, this class is exactly what you need to get started on your bread baking journey!
”Bread Baking 101” is designed for students with little to no prior baking experience. We’ll cover the basics, including: choosing the appropriate flour; understanding the role that commercial yeast plays in bread baking; finding the ideal water temperature for proper dough development; and figuring out the differences between table salt, kosher salt, and sea salt. While not a focus of the class, we’ll also talk a bit about sourdough starters and other natural leavening methods.
This is a hands-on class with detailed instruction on mixing and shaping dough, using methods to produce artisan results at home. Students will bake two different breads to take home, and a sourdough pizza lunch made by members of the class is included. Please bring an apron or wear clothes you won't mind getting covered in flour.
The class is led by Michael Sellers, Journeyman owner, who was voted "Best New Bread Baker" by Westchester Magazine in 2017. Feel free to contact Michael with any questions.
