Gluten-Free Bread Baking at Home

A hands-on class that demystifies baking bread with gluten-free ingredients.

$ 75.00 per person

About this experience

The time-honored craft of bread baking is close to an exact science. When it comes to gluten-free baking, however, many of the key techniques of traditional baking no longer apply. There are new ways to measure flour and determine proofing times; there are choices when it comes to selecting the appropriate leavener; and baking times and temperatures must be adjusted. It's no wonder people are intimidated by the prospect of baking a loaf of gluten-free bread.

This class will seek to demystify the gluten-free bread baking experience as we consider options for flour and leavening agents while learning to mix, shape, and bake a gluten-free loaf for students to take home.

Prior bread baking experience (traditional or gluten-free) is not required. A gluten-free pizza lunch prepared by class participants is included.

PLEASE NOTE: The classroom environment is not a dedicated gluten-free space. While every effort is made to remove all wheat products and sanitize work surfaces, the classroom is also used to teach traditional bread baking. This class is not appropriate for those with Celiac disease, gluten intolerance, or a gluten allergy.

Location details

This class will be held at 314 Depew Street in Peekskill (near the corner of Hudson Avenue and Depew Street).
